Tips For Those Using Blood Pressure Monitors
Saturday, February 27th, 2010Before taking my EMT class I was shown manually how to check blood pressure and, from that point on, I have always checked it that way. Why? Well, blood pressure monitors can give readings which fluctuate about 30 points up or down. Things like stress, exercise, eating or coffee can raise your blood pressure and without knowing this people can improperly use their blood pressure monitor. For example, if you have eaten then you should wait at least 30 mins before you take your pressure. Exercise also pushes your heart a lot and so, if you have been exercises, you need to sit down and relax for at least 15 mins before taking a reading. What you are looking for ideally is a pressure of 120/80 and lower and if you find that it is higher than 140/90 then you should talk to your doctor.
